My Mental Story by
Karen Samuels
What happens when the life you imagined shatters—and you have to find yourself all over again?
In My Mental Story, Karen Samuels (known in childhood as Peppy) takes us from her joyful beginnings in Jamaica to the disorienting reality of life in Canada after tragedy strikes her family. What follows is an unflinching look at identity, loss, and the quiet strength it takes to begin again.
Through years marked by emotional abuse, mental health struggles, and the ache of never feeling “enough,” Karen learns that resilience isn’t just about surviving—it’s about choosing to grow, to love, and to hope again. Her story unfolds with honesty and grace, revealing that healing is not a destination, but a daily act of courage.
Today, Karen stands as a woman transformed—rooted in self-love, self-worth, and the knowledge that her past does not define her. My Mental Story invites readers to reflect on their own journeys, reminding us that even in our darkest chapters, the light of who we truly are can never be extinguished.
From tragedy to triumph, Karen Samuels’ journey is a testament to the strength of the human spirit.
She battles rejection, mental challenges, and the search for belonging in a world that keeps trying to silence her. My Mental Story is a raw and inspiring memoir of resilience, healing, and the courage to believe that broken pieces can still become something beautiful.
Karen is a testament to the power of survival, the courage to embrace change, and the beauty of becoming who you were always meant to be.
